Rep Team Tryouts

Posted by Dawson Creek Minor Hockey Association at Jul 12, 2017 3:37PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

Dear Rep Players/Parents/Guardians

Are you ready to be back on the ice for another season of hockey? Please consider this letter as an invitation to attend the upcoming selection camp for the competitive programs in Dawson Creek.

In order to be eligible to try out for Competitive Teams (Rep Teams), you must be registered with Dawson Creek Minor Hockey or your home association and have paid the Rep Tryout Fee ($100.00) to DCMHA by August 25th, 2017. Late registrations are subject to approval.

For those of you from neighboring Associations you must be registered with your home minor hockey association and have permission to tryout. You will then pay the Tryout Fee directly to DCMHA by e-transfer or credit card over the phone. Please contact our office, 250-782-7233, to ensure this process is completed properly and in a timely manner.

Rostered players whose families are in limited financial circumstances may be eligible for assistance from the Ryan Rowe or Darryl Becotte Funds, which are administered by Dawson Creek Minor Hockey. These funds provide monies to cover registration, equipment, and Rep fees for qualifying players. Information on this assistance is available at www.dcmha.ca where you can upload and print the forms. Completed forms can be sent to Dawson Creek Minor Hockey Assoc. Box 1032, Dawson Creek, BC V1G 4H9 or emailed to dcmha@pris.ca. You can call Debbie at DCMHA for more information.

The Rep Team tryouts are scheduled to commence on the week of September 4th. Tryouts will continue into the next few week(s). The times are subject to change so players should regularly check the Association’s Website Ice Schedule found at www.dcmha.ca for specific date and times associated to your division.

At least three ice sessions will be provided before any selection decisions are made. Selections for the Rep Teams will be done in accordance with DCMHA Policy. Specifically, the team Head Coach will enlist the assistance of a selection panel. The selection panel will consist of a minimum of four individuals who possess the knowledge and experience to fairly rate players. A Goaltender Evaluator with training and experience in evaluating goalies will rate the goalies. Evaluators will not have children/siblings in the division they are evaluating. DCMHA’s Head Coach will review and approve the evaluation panel. Each player will be evaluated by the panel, using a form supplied by the Vice President, Hockey Operations – DCMHA which specifies the evaluation criteria to be considered, namely: skating, shooting, passing/receiving, puck control, positional play, scoring, checking, attitude, work ethic, sportsmanship and team play. The team Head Coach will receive the evaluations and then make his/her own rankings on a form supplied by the Vice President, Hockey Operations. The rankings will also consider specific criteria such as attitude, willingness to take instruction/direction, leadership qualities, and respect for coaches/officials/opponents. The final selections and decisions will be made by the Head Coach.

Worth noting, WE DO NOT condone the idea of players trying out for a team and then “quitting” after selections are complete or in the process of being completed. DCMHA provides extra ice time throughout the season to skill develop if that is one’s desire. It is not fair to the coaches, evaluators and other players, who potentially could be released, and it is disrespectful to the program. If it is determined that a player does not intend to play if selected, they will immediately be released. If it is determined this protocol has been further abused disciplinary action will be taken.

For those players who participate on a Competitive Team, your coaching staff will do their best to ensure the season is enjoyable and each player develops their hockey skills to the greatest potential.

Please be respectful of the volunteers that are organizing these tryouts and let DCMHA know as soon as possible of your intentions. A lot of planning goes in to tryouts and knowing projected numbers well in advance helps lesson the workload, secure the required ice times and makes the process much easier.

Atom Development – Rob Conroy
Peewee Rep – Mike Harris
Bantam Rep – Wally Kraus
Midget Rep – Jay London

If you have any question, please feel free to contact the coach in your players’ division.

Regards,

DCMHA

DCMHA is requesting applications for coaching positions for Recreational teams for the 2017-2018 season. Having coaches in place before the start of the season will ensure coaching requirements are completed and better organization of practice plans right from the start and in some cases managers and bench staff in place early on. It will also mean that DCMHA can book coaching courses before the start of the season.
For anyone interested in coaching next season, please go to the document tab at the top of this home page and upload the application form. Please email your completed application to dcmha@pris.ca If you have any questions please contact Debbie at the DCMHA office.

This is the 5 Year Strategic plan which sets out the direction that the Board is taking DCMHA in. This plan has become a template used by BC Hockey to other Associations in BC. If you have any questions make sure you contact a board member for clarification.
