SUMMER HOCKEY SCHOOL

For everyone who has asked the question -- Who's coaching the Summer Hockey school??-- The answer is - Kip Noble, Dustin Kersey and Josh Kurjata. Kip and Dustin did a great job coaching last year and Josh did an excellent job at our Spring school so we're very excited to have all 3 of them. They have kept most of it the same but have made some changes to keep everybody happy. It's not too late to register, the dates are August 23 - 27 and this year we will have a free skate on Sunday to get a feel for the ice before the school starts. The registration package can be downloaded below or phone Marilynne 250-782-2178 and she can fill you in. Hope to see you.

August 23rd to 27th - Information is available here, registration form can be downloaded here.

REF JERSEYS

Minor Hockey is looking for slightly used ref jerseys of all sizes, if you have any you would like to donate for our new refs please contact Becky Needham at 250.782.9777. It would be greatly appreciated.

From time to time minor hockey teams enlist older hockey players or other volunteers to assist with practices, scrimmages and other activities. It is important to ensure that insurance is in place by following the BC Hockey guidelines.

INJURIES

When a player or coach is injured while participating in a minor hockey event (game - practice etc.) an injury report form needs to be completed REGARDLESS OF WHETHER OR NOT THE INJURED PERSON REQUIRES THE ATTENTION OF A DOCTOR OR DENTIST. A member of the coaching staff and the parents will be required to sign the form. If the injured person requires the attention of a doctor or dentist then the doctor or dentist will also need to sign the form. Once the form is completed then it needs to be turned in to the DCMHA office. The DCMHA office will then forward on to BC Hockey. There is a ninety day window for this form to be completed and received by BC Hockey.

RESPECT IN SPORT PROGRAM (FORMALLY KNOWN AS "SPEAK OUT")
The new safety program Respect in Sport (RiS) is now officially open to all BC Hockey members. The program can be accessed on the BC Hockey website on the Clinics page under the Respect in Sport heading.  The deadline to complete the RiS certification is December 1, 2009.    Respect in Sport   User instructions and a FAQ sheet are also posted on the Clinics webpage to ease the transition for BC Hockey members to this new program.   RiS effectively replaces the SpeakOut! course. Members that already have their SpeakOut! certification are not required to take RiS. Certification through Respect in Sport will be the equivalent to certification received when taking a SpeakOut! course.   RiS is an on-line training course for coaches and sport leaders. It is designed as a tool to assist coaches in identifying and dealing with abuse, neglect, harassment and bullying in sport. The on-line course curriculum is broken into six (6), 30 minute modules and includes audio/visual presentations, quizzes and printable handouts. Another beneficial feature of the program is that it does not need to be done all at once, it can be completed at your leisure.   For more information about BC Hockey, please visit the BC Hockey website at www.bchockey.net or email info@bchockey.net .

TRAVEL DISCOUNTS

BC Hockey has received notification from Sport BC that all BC Hockey member clubs and teams are now eligible to receive preferred rates on room rentals with Sandman Hotels, Inns and Suites across Canada and Car rentals with Avis Rent-A-Car in Western Canada.

The above noted deals are a great way for BC Hockey members to save on travel costs. Further information with respect to this program may be found at www.sport.bc.ca/travel
